P2 and I are off to the Netherlands in a few days to drink Heineken and complain about the weather in late November.
This was one of those trips we just kind of decided to do when Flying Blue dropped some saver availability to AMS from the West Coast a few months ago. Was able to snag 2J PDX->AMS to get there and 2J AMS->SFO to get home. We've flown KLM's "long haul experience" from SCL<->EZE last year on one of their fifth-freedom routes, but this will be the first time actually flying them to and from Europe. Mostly looking forward to adding to our Delft house collection 😛
We're staying at a few hotels, but most of the time will be spent at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam, staying for 4 nights (really hoping Globalist pays off and we can check in at noon, we land at AMS around 8 AM), then 2 nights at the Andaz Amsterdam (really excited to stay here), and then we're off to The Hague for 2 nights, staying at Hotel Des Indes, which I was able to get 2 nights for free due to the Amex Biz Plat $300 FHR credits – each night came in just under $300 and was able to use 2 cards and confirm the hotel can combine the reservations.
We would have loved to stay at the Andaz for the entire time in Amsterdam, but it wasn't worth it on points or cash for that long. 30k points or around $375 USD/night – too much.
P2 and I always try to leave the country on the 4th of July and Thanksgiving (don't get me started), and neither of us has been to Amsterdam before, so I'm looking forward to it despite the mid weather we might have, I don't mind to bundle up as long as it doesn't rain too much. We'll both be working full-time the week after Thanksgiving, so I think we'll appreciate the extended time in one city, and The Hague is just a short train ride away.
