Understanding award cancellation policies can save you hundreds of dollars in fees. Each loyalty program has different rules for changes and cancellations, some much more expensive than others.
ANA Mileage Club
Mileage Club permits complimentary date and time changes for award flights when made at least 96 hours before departure. Canceling awards requires 3,000 miles per ticket, with taxes and fees being refunded. Changes or cancellations after departure time result in complete forfeiture.
AerClub (Avios)
Aer Lingus charges £35 (~$46 USD) for both changes and cancellations. No close-in booking fees. Phone/chat bookings incur an additional £15 (~$20 USD) fee compared to online bookings.
Club Premier
Club Premier award tickets from Mexico to the U.S. incur a change fee of MX$4,000 ($207) for both single and round-trip bookings. Additional administration fees apply: MX$323 ($16) for online changes or MX$640 ($33) for offline changes via phone or other channels.
Aeroplan
Aeroplan members face fees of 100 CAD for modifying award tickets and 150 CAD for canceling and redepositing miles for standard awards. These charges apply per flight direction, though premium award categories may have reduced fees. Award modifications or cancellations must be completed at least 2 hours prior to departure to avoid forfeiture.
Flying Blue
Flying Blue program imposes a uniform fee of €70 for both award ticket modifications and cancellations with mile redeposit. Members must complete any changes or cancellations before the flight's check-in deadline to prevent ticket forfeiture.
Mileage Plan
Mileage Plan awards can be changed or canceled without fees. However, partner bookings incur a non-refundable $12.50 booking fee per direction. All modifications or cancellations must occur before the scheduled departure time to avoid forfeiture.
AAdvantage
Best cancellation policy in the business! The AAdvantage program eliminates all fees for award ticket changes and cancellations. Members must process any modifications or cancellations before the flight's scheduled departure to prevent forfeiture.
LifeMiles
LifeMiles charges a flat $150 fee for any award ticket modification. Cancellation fees range from $50 for short-haul economy to $200 for long-haul premium cabin awards. Changes and cancellations are permitted either 24+ hours before or after scheduled departure, but are prohibited during the 24-hour window surrounding departure. Subscription members may receive fee waivers. Lifemiles+ members have this cancellation fee waived! You can cancel a Lifemiles ticket after the flight, starting 24 hours after takeoff, and still receive a refund. Very nice feature of Lifemiles.
Executive Club (Avios)
Executive Club charges $55 for online changes or cancellations, plus $25 for phone service. Regional variations apply (€42.50 EU, £35 UK). Members can choose between paying the cancellation fee or forfeiting taxes/fees to recover Avios. Processing must occur at least 24 hours before departure.
Asia Miles
Asia Miles offers two payment options: $50 cash or 7,500 miles for changes, and $120 cash or 17,000 miles for cancellations. Cash payment provides better value. Unique flexibility allows changes or cancellations even after departure, provided they occur within the ticket's validity period.
Skymiles
SkyMiles awards originating in North America have no change or cancellation fees, except for Basic Economy bookings. International origin tickets may incur $150 per person fees, though enforcement varies. All changes must be completed before scheduled departure time.
Infinity MileageLands
Infinity MileageLands applies a standard $50 fee for both award changes and cancellations. Members must complete all modifications before the flight's scheduled departure time to prevent forfeiture.
Skywards
Skywards imposes fees up to $25 for date changes and up to $75 for cancellations, though Flex Plus awards are exempt from both charges. All modifications must be completed before the scheduled departure time to avoid forfeiture.
Etihad Guest
Guest program maintains extremely restrictive cancellation terms. No cancellations permitted within 24 hours of departure. Cancellation penalties are based on timing: 25% of required miles if canceled 21+ days prior, 50% for 8-21 days prior, and 75% within 7 days of departure.
Finnair Plus (Avios)
Finnair Plus members pay €50 for award modifications or cancellations with mile redeposit. All processing must be completed at least 24 hours prior to departure to avoid ticket forfeiture.
Iberia Plus (Avios)
Iberia Plus charges €25 for changes or cancellations on Iberia-operated flights, requiring 24+ hours advance notice. Partner airline awards cannot be modified or canceled through this program, making alternative booking methods preferable.
Trueblue
TrueBlue eliminates change and cancellation fees for most awards. Taxes and fees are credited to Travel Bank for future use rather than original payment method. Blue Basic awards incur $100-200 cancellation fees. Processing must occur before scheduled departure.
Qantas Frequent Flyer
Frequent Flyer program uses points for fees: 5,000 points per passenger for changes and 6,000 points for cancellations. Members must process modifications at least 24 hours before departure to prevent forfeiture.
Privilege Club (Avios)
Privilege Club applies tiered fees: $25 for changes/cancellations made 24+ hours before departure, $100 for those made 3-24 hours prior. No modifications permitted within 3 hours of departure, resulting in Avios forfeiture (though taxes and government fees are refunded).
Krisflyer
KrisFlyer fees depend on award type: Saver awards cost $25-50 for changes and $75 for cancellations; Advantage awards cost $0-25 for changes and $50 for cancellations. All processing must be completed before scheduled departure time to avoid forfeiture.
Rapid Rewards
Rapid Rewards pioneered fee-free award changes and cancellations. Members have exceptional flexibility with only a 10-minute minimum advance notice requirement before scheduled departure.

Velocity
Cancellations and refunds are permitted prior to the commencement of any travel. Cancellations must be requested at least 24 hours prior to first scheduled departure and refunds are subject to a 4,500 Points or $35 charge per guest per booking. Refunds or re-credit are not permitted once travel has commenced. Guests who check-in, but do not fly will not be eligible for a refund or credit. Refund amount excludes booking and credit card fees.
